NEMA Moves on to Beech Ridge
Nine winners in nine starts! Not since 1994 has the Northeastern Midget Association spread the wealth around like it is doing presently. It was ten in ten back then
Ironically, the driver who ended the streak in ’94, Russ Stoehr, then driving for Bruce Beane, will be out to extend it when NEMA visits Beech Ridge Speedway Sept. 15 and 16. Stoehr hopes to provide the Dumo’s Desire team with its first win in 2012.
NEMA will run 30 lap features on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. The NEMA Lites are on both schedules as well. Beech Ridge last hosted NEMA and the Lites back in 2008.
The current streak is “a credit to the rules and the handicapping,” offers Tim Bertrand. Bertrand Motorsports is, in fact, the only double winner so far in 2012– claiming wins with Randy Cabral and Todd Bertrand. A winner at Waterford on Sept. 1, Todd Bertrand can become NEMA’s first back-to-back winner in 19 races.
More evidence, Bertrand contends, that “NEMA has stepped up its game when it comes to set up. There is a lot of home work being done. There is no other way to be successful.”
Others looking for repeat wins in Maine are Greg Stoehr, John Zych Jr., Adam Cantor, Seth Carlson, Anthony Marvuglio, Jim Miller and Mike Horn. In several cases, NEMA has set new standards for speed.
Just like it was back in 2008, Bertrand and Cabral take the point lead to the Pine Tree State. Stoehr and the Dumo’s Desire team are 23 behind while the brothers Bertrand have climbed into third, 73 back.
The Chris Derosiers/Marvuglio combo has some Beech Ridge experience. Jeremy Frankowski was the winner in ’07 driving for Chris DeRosiers. Marvuglio chased home winner Todd Bettencourt in the 2008 Lites feature.
Joey Payne Jr., a winner back in 2004, was second to Bobby Santos Jr. in ’08 and third behind Frankowski and Aaron Wall in ’07. Russ Stoehr (1998, 99) and Jeff Horn (1993) have also won at Beech Ridge.
NEMA’s only multiple winner Carl Medeiros Jr. is looking for success number four in Lites action. Looking for a second win will be Ryan Bigelow, Randy Cabral, Brandon Igo and Avery Stoehr. Bethany Stoehr, Ian Cumens, Ryan Duhaime, Christian Briggs and R.J. Tufano are among the other contenders.
NEMA NUGGETS – Active drivers Jeff Horn, Russ and Greg Stoehr and Payne were all part of that ten-for-10 in ’94. Others were Nokie Fornoro and Drew Fornoro, Mike Seymour, Babe Shaw, Lou Cicconi and Joey Coy. The club seven-for-seven in ‘07 before Ben Seitz became a two-time winner....NEMA has been going to Beech Ridge since 1955 when George Tilton won on the dirt. Drew Fornoro is the win leader with four... Beech Ridge is one of 14 different tracks where Russ Stoehr has claimed at least one NEMA feature. It is one of the nine tracks Jeff Horn has won at and one of eight where Joey Payne Jr. has checkered. A win would increase Randy Cabral’s list to eight as well...
